One of the most common questions asked about cancer is what is the stage 4 lung cancer? They might view it as the end of disease or means death. There are some clients who are able to survive the stage 4 lung cancer. But not all patient‘s are the same some die immediately and some are not. 
During stage 1, cancer is found in a form of small tumor, stage two and stage threelung cancer is confined to the chest with large and invasive tumor. Then it will metastasize to other parts of the body. The brain is the most affected part. Stage 4 is called Metastatic cancer. Stage 4 lung cancers cannot only spread to the brain but also to the bones, adrenal glands and liver. Bone scans are done to know if the lung cancer metastasized to the bone. We might think that lung cancer only affects the lungs but it isn’t true because it might be the ground for other kinds of cancer to appear.
The goal of cancer treatment is to stop the growth of the cancerous cells and to remove them. The treatment is painful to the patient and it will give them burden but they have no choice but to undergo different treatment for them to survive. Due to the exposure of brain to the radiation side effects exist. Because of this the patient must discuss the pros and cons of brain radiation to his doctor.
Stage 4 lung cancer survival rate is not that high in number but lung cancer stage 4 ,may not be curable but it is treatable. So there are still chances for a person to survive stage four lung cancer. Stage four lung cancer symptoms are also like those with previous stages but they will be able to feel intense pain due to treatment, hair loss, weight loss, nausea and vomiting and body weakness are experienced due to chemotherapy. Stage four lung cancer will not be given surgery anymore, doctors depends on chemotherapy to slow the progress of the cancer calls. The goal is to prolong the patient life as much as possible.
Since the patient has the right to refuse treatment, when the time comes that he refuses chemotherapy, he will be given supportive care to help reduce symptoms caused by lung cancer. The focus of care is to give comfort to alleviate the patient from pain and provide comfort. Hospice care is a great benefit to those who refuse chemotherapy. Some patients are not qualified to undergo chemotherapy, these are the persons who are not healthy and could not bear the harmful side-effects of the treatment. Those patients who can no longer accept any treatment like radiation therapy or chemo therapy are not left alone; the medical team will still provide them care that will not compromise the person’s integrity. What the person needs most in these dire moments is support and understanding from family and friends.
